The Role:
Backend Engineer
As the Backend Engineer at Valka.ai, you'll be the cornerstone ensuring our AI initiatives have a robust, scalable, and efficient foundation. You'll bring your “hacker at heart” mindset to streamline our development processes, enable real-time AI-powered features, and integrate seamlessly with our broader infrastructure. In doing so, you'll directly support our AI engineers, helping them move faster and innovate at scale.
What You'll Do
- ML Ops & Pipeline Development
- Design, build, and maintain MLOps pipelines that empower AI engineers to train, deploy, and monitor models efficiently.
- Implement best practices around versioning, containerization, and continuous integration to ensure rapid iteration.
- Infrastructure Collaboration
- Work closely with the infrastructure team to plan and manage our cloud environments, focusing on performance, cost optimization, and reliability.
- Ensure our backend services scale seamlessly and can handle real-time interactions with digital humans.
- Support Services for AI Models
- Develop and manage Python-based microservices and APIs that interface with models or large language model (LLM) components.
- Collaborate with AI teams to translate model outputs into production-ready services, ensuring responsive and great user experiences.
- Innovate & Experiment
- Embody a “hacker mentality” test new approaches, quickly build proof-of-concepts, and pivot as needed to stay on the leading edge of AI-driven technology.
- Integrate feedback from stakeholders, refine services, and continuously improve performance.
About You
- Proficient in Python: Comfortable building robust backend systems and services using Python frameworks (e.g., FastAPI, Flask). Golang is a great nice to have.
- MLOps Experience: Familiar with common ML lifecycle tools, container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), and deployment platforms (AWS).
- Systems & Infrastructure Knowledge: Skilled in cloud environments and CI/CD pipelines and able to coordinate with infrastructure experts to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.
- Hacker at Heart: You thrive on problem-solving, rapid prototyping and enjoy exploring creative solutions to complex challenges.
- Collaborative Spirit: Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work hand-in-hand with AI engineers, product designers, and stakeholders.
- Ownership Mentality: You’re proactive, adaptable, and driven to take charge and ensure the successful delivery of your projects.
